Self-Portraits 2005

Today, we are getting information faster, we fly faster, we talk faster, we love faster, we live faster, and we die faster. In the midst of all this is life, our life, the only life we have. I want to enjoy life very slowly, as slowly as possible. I don´t want fast fame, I don´t want fast money, I don´t want fast love. I want to enjoy slowly. I believe in strong colors and I transport colors from nature to my work. I use blue as a river, yellow as the sun, green as a tree, red as a red pepper or tomato. The main motifs in my work are nature, humans and civilization.

The woman has a special position in my paintings as she gives birth to the world. She needs to be strong in order to be able to defend the world. She is the central figure in the jungle while defending herself from hungry animals.

Nature and civilization are opposite to each other while the woman just seems to be alone in her environment while singing, sitting, walking in the woods, crossing the river, sitting by the sea, enjoying the sun, waiting but…she is not alone as he is also here.

The man is not visible at first sight but if you have a second look, you will find him. Sometimes he is hiding his feelings, sometimes you just cannot see him but you can feel his presence. They need each other to be in balance.
